National Museum: entrance

The conference participants are cordially invited to the Gala Dinner on the second day of the ISDRS 2017, Thursday the 15th of June. The dinner will take place right after the plenary session of the day, from 19.00 until 21.00  

The Gala dinner will take place at the National Museum of Colombia. Founded in 1823 by the first law of Colombian Congress, the national Museum of Bogotá is the oldest museum in the country and one of the oldest in America. During almost two centuries it has been dedicated to preserve de heritage and cultural values of the country, representing therefore an exclusive location for this year conference´s dinner.  

We will propose unique recipes fusing traditional and contemporary Colombian cuisine, with possibility to choose between meat, chicken and vegetarian options. The food you will be enjoying at this gala dinner have been prepared by Escuela Taller, an organization dedicated to teach and train traditional jobs for young men and women who were previously displaced by civil conflict or were in a vulnerable situation.

Free shuttle buses will be provided to reach the venue. They will be available starting from 18.30 at the side entrance of the main building Mario Lacerna (where the plenary session will be held).

Founded on the 28th of July 1823, the national museum of Colombia is the oldest museum in the country and one of the oldest in all of Latin America.  During its large history, the museum occupied different locations. Initially installed in the Casa Botanica - today disappeared - the museum was only moved to its current location in 1948.

Known as the Central  Prison of Cundinamarca, also known as ‘Panóptico', its current location was originally designed as a panopticum following the philosophical idea of Jeremy Bentham.  The concept bNational Museum: Aereal view eyond the design is to allow  all inmates to be observed simultaneously  by a single watchman. The building was  historically used as a special prison for  political prisoners of civil wars in Colombia.  The museum was declared National  Monument in 1975 by the government,  due to the rich architectural and historical  values which it incorporates.  

Today, the National Museum of Colombia is administered by the Minister of Culture, which is in charge of management, conservation and diffusion of the collections included in the museum.
