Paramo del Verjón - Reserva Natural de Matarredonda

Description

There in the heights, after the 3.000meter (9.842 feet) mark between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of capricorn, is the páramo ecosystem, which is highly biodiverse due to its proximity to the equator. The old peasant farm dedicated to agriculture and cattle raising is now the Matarredonda Natural Reserve. Two decades ago, the colombian legislation related to the use of mountain land above 3.000 meters changed, so now where cattle used to graze and potato crops predominated the paramo ecosystem has reemerged, the flora and fauna have returned to be contemplated by nature lovers. It includes:Transportation, Guidance, Insurance and Revenue to the reservation.Cost US $ 42 per person, must be completed a minimum group of 15 participants to carry out the activity. City Tour with Monserrate

 

A staff member from the company will meet you at the hotel to take you on a tour around the historic center of the city. The first stop will be at Plaza de Bolivar to walk along the streets and take a close look of the most important buildings of the city, such as the National Capitol, which is the center of the country's legislative life; Casa de los Comuneros; Casa de Nariño, which is the Presidential house; and the Santa Clara Church Museum.

The tour includes a visit to the Gold Museum, which exhibits about 34,000 pieces of metalwork from various Hispanic cultures and a visit to the House Museum Quinta de Bolivar, the house belonged to Simon Bolivar. The tour continues to the iconic symbol of Bogota, the Monserrate Hill rising up to 3,152 above sea level, to visit the sanctuary where you will find the statue of the Lord of Miracles.

From there it is possible to enjoy the best view of Bogota. Note: Gold museum and Quinta de Bolivar closed on Mondays, instead we visit Museo de Botero and Museo Casa de la Moneda

City tour without Monserrate

A staff member from the company will meet you at the hotel to take you on a tour around the historic center of the city. Visit to the Divino Niño´s Sanctuary

A staff member from the company will pick you up at the hotel to take you on your pilgrimage to visit the sanctuary of the Baby Jesus located in the neighborhood 20 de Julio in the south of Bogota. Since 1935 people have visited this church to worship the image of Baby Jesus and pray for their families.

The Church is open to the public every day. Mass schedule: Monday to Friday (6:00 a.m. , 7:00 a.m. , 8:00 a.m. , 11:00 a.m. , 12:00 m, 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. ); Saturdays and Sundays (without stopping, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ). Duration: About 4 hours. English speaking guide service."

Zipaquira Salt Cathedral

A staff member from the company will meet you at the hotel, either in the morning or the afternoon, to take you on a tour through La Sabana de Bogota to the town of Zipaquira, which name means 'city of our Father' in the language of the Chibcha. Back in pre-Columbian times, salt around the area was the most important commodity and the ‘salt cakes' were the only currency for trading. Over time, technology improved and the muiscas began to extract larger amounts of salt.

As a result, an underground salt deposit was formed and it is where the Salt Cathedral was built, 180 meters below the surface. Inside, there is a chapel, "capilla de los mineros" built as a tribute to the Virgin "Our Lady of the Rosary of Guasá" (Guasá means 'mine' in Chibcha). At the end, return to Bogotá. Guatavita

A staff member from the company will pick you up at the hotel to embark on a trip to the past. The tour will take you through the north of Bogota along the Sabana to the old Muisca town of Sesquile (that means 'hot water' in the Chibcha language). From here, we go to the Lake el Cacique Guatavita. Back in pre-hispanic times, the cacique used to perform a ceremony where he would cover his body with gold dust and immerse himself into the lake, while people threw metalwork figures as sign of worship and gratitude to the gods, particularly to the sun.

The tour continues to "Guatavita La Nueva", the new village that replaced the old one that was flooded to build the reservoir of Tomine during the second half of the twentieth century. Lunch included. At the end of the tour return to the hotel. Note: The lake is not open to the public on Mondays. Duration: About 7 hours. English speaking guide service

Salta Cathedral and "new" guatavita

A staff member from the company will pick you up at the hotel to start the tour along some of the villages from the pre-Hispanic period linked to the exploitation and trade of salt and the manufacture of ceremonial figures made of gold. The tour will take you through the north of Bogota along the Sabana to Zipaquira. Here we will visit the Salt Cathedral, a catholic temple built in the ancient hollows of a salt mine, 180 meters below ground. At the exit we will enjoy a typical lunch that includes boiled potatoes in brine (salt water from the mine) and ajiaco (a Colombian typical chicken soup).

Afterwards we will visit the Lake of Guatavita, a sacred place for the Muiscas, where the legend of El Dorado was born. This is the place where the indigenous immersed their selves, covered in gold, to make offerings to their gods. Return to the hotel. Note: The lake is closed to the public on Mondays.

Tunja and Villa de Leyva

One of our representatives will pick you up at the hotel to begin a journey through the beautiful landscapes of Boyaca, Tunja and Villa de Leyva. The first stop will be at "el Puente de Boyaca", where the battle in which the Country acquired its definite independence took place. Here you will see the obelisk and the triumphal arch. The tour will continue towards Tunja (which means 'mighty man' in Chibcha), a town that in times of the Muiscas was already of great relevance and continued to be so in the colonial times. There you will take a walk to visit the Founder's House, the home of the notary public Juan de Vargas and the Santo Domingo church, among other places. Then, you will head to Villa de Leyva (lunch included), where you will take a walk along the town to see the old colonial houses that have been transformed into museums and the convent of the ""Santo Ecce Homo"", which since 1620 has attracted pilgrims from around the globe. At the end of this experience we will return to Bogota.

Bogotá at night having a dinner in Andres D.C.

At nightfall, one of our representatives will contact you at your hotel to take you to the restaurant Andres DC located in the Zona Rosa of the city, along the way have a panoramic view places like the Zona Rosa, La Zona T and Parque 93, northern areas of the city where high level gastronomy and nightlife are. It includes a bonus of consumption with which may dine in the restaurant Andres DC and transfer Hotel/Restaurant/Hotel. Does not include bilingual guide. Private Coffee Plantations

One of our representatives will pick you up at the hotel to take you on a journey in which you will learn about a centennial coffee hacienda. In your way to Fusagasuga, you will descend from the 2,600 meters above sea level from Bogotá to 1,700 meters of altitude where you will be able to appreciate the changing climates of the different thermal floors. Upon arrival in Fusagasuga (which means 'woman who hides behind the mountain' or 'people of mountain' in the Chibcha language) will visit the Hacienda Coloma, to take a walk around the coffee plantations and learn about the process of coffee harvesting, threshing, roasting and packing.The plan includes typical lunch.

Walking tour through the historical center of Bogotá

The historic center of Bogota, known as La Candelaria, was declared National Monument in 1963 and is composed by the old neighborhoods of La Cathedral, Egipto and La Concordia. The area preserves the buildings built in the XVI century and its steep stone paved streets with Colonial names. The tour starts in the Chorro de Quevedo square, passing by the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and History, the Cultural Center Gabriel García Márquez, la Casa de la Moneda, the Botero Museum, the Colon Theater, the San Ignacio Church, the Plaza Bolivar, the Santa Clara Church Museum, la Casa de Nariño and the San Augustine Cloister. It includes the entry to the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum.

Visit to Nemocon

At the agreed time one of our representatives will contact you at your hotel to start a tour of the Bogota savannah to reach the town of Nemocón , a village with typical architecture colonial and quiet streets , visit the salt mine in this town where descending 80 meters underground appreciate the 28 mirrors brine in which the rock salt dissolved and produce an impressive optical effect , the stone of 1,300 kilos symbolizing the world and the salt crystal 1,600 kilos carved in the shape of heart by the Miguel Sanchez mining in the tour will see stalactites and stalagmites. At the end of the visit we return to Bogota.

Sustainable Medellín

 

Day 1: Welcome at "José María Cordoba" Airport; transfer Airport-Hotel (Regular service)

Day 2: Breakfast at Hotel & Tour to "Parque Arví" Forrest Reservation. Leaving the hotel at 9:00 AM, and taking the Metro until "Acevedo" station, once there, ride up in the "Metro cable" system (Gondolas) towards "Parque Arví" Forrest Reservation. The ride last some 45 Minutes, and during this short ride you will be witness of the beautiful landscape of this wonderful region, arriving at "EL TAMBO" station, where the unique "Mercado Campesino" (peasant green market) will be of your delight.

Once there, one of the Tour Guides from "Parque Arví" Forrest Reservation will meet you in order to start a nice tour through this magnificent place. Touring the area and enjoying the magnificent view, surrounded by beautiful trees and the soft gentle whisper of the wind, you will enjoy some of the pleasant and safe trails of this natural park, and all of its plants, trees, local small animals, its culture and history, the breathtaking views of the landscape and the allure of the "Arví" territory. Each one of the trails come with its own difficulty level and there are some other natural attractions to be enjoyed by the visitors.

This short hiking activity will last around 1 or 2 hours, and afterwards you will take the shuttle bus towards Santa Elena town, cradle of the traditional "Silleteros" (flowers bucket carriers), and you will pay a short visit to one of the most representative flower farms of this tradition. It is important to mention the vital role the community played on this transformation, by taking in and leading the social projects in order to shape the new face and spirit of this neighborhood, and there are some locals who proudly give tours telling the story of the sector and they came up with the "Graffitour" in order to tell their stories and life experiences.

Here, you will be treated with a famous local dessert "Cremas Doña Consuelo", and then will be taken to learn about the local Graffiti-guys. Afterwards, the tour will continue towards the "Zona Norte" (north zone) to witness the transformation of this sector as well, then heading to "Plaza de las Esculturas" (master Fernando Botero's sculpture square), and then afterwards heading back to the hotel.
